At the Frauwallner winery, the winemakers and the wine speak a clear language: 100% of the grapes come from the Vulkanland region of Styria, the vineyards are tended by hand and each individual grape variety is vinified in its own unique way. Only wines of provenance are produced here, and Walter Frauwallner's experience and consistency result in a medley of individual expressions, which are also characterised by a clear signature and a high regional recognition value. "Lots of wine in the glass, the terroir is clearly recognisable and always a pleasure to drink" is how the father of two sums up his philosophy and implements it impressively in three lines.
Vulkanland Steiermark DAC" is the name of the wines classically vinified in steel tanks - easy to consume, but at the same time elegant and multi-faceted. New to the range are the "Stradener Ortsweine" - expressive wines, between regional and vineyard wines. And then there are the wines from the chalky 1STK Ried Stradener Rosenberg, the Ried Steintal and the basalt-dominated Ried Altes Steinkreuz, as well as the wines from the heart of the winery: the Große STK vineyard Ried Buch. These wines are profound and big. If you want to experience the Styrian volcanic region through wine, these regional ambassadors are a must.
Pinot Blanc Weissburgunder and Pinot Gris Grigio Grauburgunder, Morillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Traminer in particular have cemented the family-run winery's national and international standing. 100 Falstaff points in the WeinGuide 2021/2022 for the Trockenbeerenauslese Gelber Muskateller Ried Stradener Rosenberg 2017 confirm this path.
The winery has been a member of the "Steirische Terroir und Klassikweingüter - STK" since 2018. Manual work, careful foliage work, bunch thinning and selective grape harvesting are obligatory. Patience and time determine the ageing process. In this way, fixed wine sizes are created in a practically oriented cellar, whose different approaches form an exciting overall palette.
