The sparkling wine Öreghegy Brut, vintage 2016 from the winery Haraszthy Pincészet has been rated in 2023 with 91 Falstaff points.
Aged four and half years on the lees, the toasted, nutty, slightly earthy complexity is reminiscent of a classy Cava Gran Reserva. However, the fruit register is more towards green apple and quince, with punchy acidity giving this a cool-climate energy. Bone-dry, textured and very long on the palate, this is an eminently serious sparkling wine, showing the potential and ambition of Etyeki Pezsgő by one of its largest producers.
