The red wine CRU Omahu Syrah, vintage 2018 from the winery Smith & Sheth has been rated in 2021 by Anne Krebiehl MW with 95 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Syrah from the region Hawkes Bay in New Zealand.
Finely ground white pepper swings alongside dried sour cherry and black olive tapenade on the fragrant nose. The palate reverberates with freshness that seems to underline the ripe sour and sweet cherry even more. That peppery spiciness remains an enlivening feature throughout, shimmering alongside that central vein of acidic brightness. A compelling, visceral Syrah that will be long-lived. Drink by 2045.
