The red wine Eckelsheim Spätburgunder trocken, vintage 2023 from the winery Weingut Mertz has been rated in 2025 by Ulrich Sautter with 90 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Spätburgunder from the region Rhine Hesse in Germany.
The aroma reveals a lot of new wood - with chocolaty flavours and aromas of cinnamon and gingerbread. There is also a somewhat "warm" fruit flavour of blueberry, blackberry and sultanas. On the palate, the wine is juicy and supple, with mild tannins and significantly less woody than on the nose.
