Schloss Gobelsburg is the oldest winery in the Danube region of Kamptal and can look back on a documented winegrowing history dating back to the 12th century. In 2021, Schloss Gobelsburg celebrates its 850th vintage of the time-honoured domaine. Cistercian monks of Zwettl Abbey were given their first vineyards in 1171, and over the past 850 years have had a lasting impact on viticulture in Austria.

Over the centuries, the monks have cultivated vineyards in the very best locations in Austria. Today, the winery focuses on the typical wines of provenance of the Danube appellations in the three categories of regional, local and Riedenwein - including world-famous names such as Ried Heiligenstein or Ried Lamm. Sustainable viticulture has always been a matter close to everyone's hearts. Thus, the vineyards are tended with care and consideration, from pruning to foliage work. In autumn, when the leaves are already turning golden in October and November, the grapes are picked by hand into small crates and carefully brought to the cellar for further sorting.

Simplicity and austerity is a Cistercian life motto that also points the way to great wines. The much-needed time factor has become a rare commodity these days. However, the Gobelsburg wines are granted the luxury of being able to develop in peace and quiet in the cool cellars.

In addition to the typical appellation wines, other wine specialities are pressed in the cellars of Schloss Gobelsburg. The winery is considered a specialist for Austrian quality sparkling wine as well as for "Cool Climate" red wines, based on the Pinot family (Pinot Noir, St. Laurent & Zweigelt). A small but fine speciality are the sweet wines from Gobelsburg. Here, Prädikats are pressed at all levels and also, regularly, ice wine. The winery is also known for its preoccupation with historical winemaking, which is expressed in the wines called "Tradition".
