Italy

Limoncello consists of just four ingredients: Lemon peel, water, sugar and pure alcohol. With justt these four basic ingredients and a little time, you can find the right mix for every palate.

Makes 1 liter of limoncello.

Ingredients
3 large, untreated organic lemons (zest)
250 ml pure alcohol (at least 90 % vol.)
750 ml Water
250 g Sugar
  • Clean the lemons well and peel them thinly, carefully avoiding the white, bitter part of the peel.
  • Place the lemon peels in a glass container with a wide opening (e.g., a large mason jar), pour alcohol over it and leave to steep for at least eight days. Stir or shake the mixture daily.
  • After eight days, mix in the sugar and water and shake well until everything has dissolved. Bring to a boil briefly if necessary to dissolve all the sugar.
  • Then filter the resulting mixture through a cheesecloth and mix well.
  • Finally, pour the limoncello through a cheesecloth into a sterile bottle and seal tightly. Store in a cool place until needed. Serve ice cold.

Tip:

When mixing the water and sugar, the sweetness can be varied – simply add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter blend. The alcohol content can also be adjusted.
