The Iby family from Horitschon has been growing grapes since 1884 and switched to organic farming more than ten years ago. The most important goal for the Ibys is always the highest quality: "We can only achieve this with organic farming. For me, quality includes sustainability," says Anton M. Iby. "We are a completely normal family, with lively children, caring mothers and grandmothers and self-confident fathers and grandfathers who naturally do what their wives say." However, there are two things in the Iby family that play a prominent role here - compared to other families: Blaufränkisch and the name Anton. Anton Iby I founded the wine dynasty in Horitschon over 100 years ago. And it was always Anton who carried the love of wine, the craft and the experience in the vineyard and cellar from one generation to the next. It was Anton Iby IV who helped Blaufränkisch achieve its breakthrough. Anton M. Iby V. is now at work. "The nice thing about looking at the vine is that you try to capture what is happening with all your senses and possibilities - every year, every moment," he says.
The Ibys are proud of their Dürrau, Hochäcker, Gfanger and Rager vineyards, which could not be more different in terms of their characteristics. And just as a mother loves each of her children equally, they cherish each of their vineyards. They have a very clear idea of what they demand from the vines and what they do not. They benefit from the fact that they know their soils very well and therefore know what care the vines in the vineyard and later each of their wines need. "We get to the bottom of Blaufränkisch, in the truest sense of the word, because we live Blaufränkisch!" says Eva M. Iby. The result is fruity, supple, elegant and extremely refined red wines that delight right from the start.
