One of London’s most well known luxury hotels, The Dorchester, will start its biggest renovation in more than 30 years next February.
The five-star Dorchester in London's Park Lane opened its doors in 1931. It has since welcomed public figures from General Eisenhower (he planned the invasion of Normandy from the Eisenhower Suite) and members of the British royal family to Ernest Hemingway and Kate Moss.
The renovation, the most extensive since 1989, will start with the entrance to the hotel, The Promenade and The Bar at The Dorchester, as well as two guest floors. Work is scheduled to finish by September next year.
"While some elements of the hotel may be adapted during this time, we will remain open to guests and you can expect the same wonderful care and attention when you visit us," it said.
The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang, which underwent refurbishments in the last few years, will operate as normal during the renovation, along with the Dorchester Spa.
French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon is reimagining the hotel entrance, The Promenade and the new guest rooms and suites. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, which has worked on Fortnum & Mason in Hong Kong and Harry's Bar in London, will recreate the bar, Hotel Designs reported.
The Dorchester isn't the only luxury London hotel looking to upgrade. The Ritz London in Piccadilly is planning the biggest revamp in its 115-year history, involving a five-storey basement with a spa, pool and juice bar.
