Billecart-Salmon releases Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon 2009

Champagne Billecart-Salmon have a long track record in making rosé Champagne, and Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon is their vintage prestige cuvée.

Named after one of the house’s founders, and first made in 1988, this latest Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon is from the sunny and dry 2009 vintage that brought forth exceptionally healthy grapes.

Radiance

Forent Lys, cellar master at Billecart-Salmon notes that “this cuvée is set apart by its radiance, refined purity as well as unique character.” He continues: "Prestige cuvée rosé Elisabeth Salmon perfectly embodies the woman of great character who co-founded Maison Billecart-Salmon back in 1818. Elegantly blended, with a dash of sophistication, this 2009 vintage showcases our best terroirs of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grand cru."

The wine

The wine is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Billecart-Salmon’s home village, and Aÿ and 45% Chardonnay grand cru from Côtes des Blancs. The wine received its beautiful, coppery pink hue by an addition of 10% of Pinot Noir vinified as a red wine using grapes from Valofroy, a parcel of old vines in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ with a full southern exposure. The wine was aged for 132 months on lees and disgorged with a dosage of 7g/l.
