Climate activists attack airline advertising

Across Europe, the airline industry has been subjected to a so-called “brandalism” campaign, with their advertising posters coming under attack.

“At Lufthansa, we distract you with pictures of trees while we fry the planet.” This unusual message on a poster of the airline Lufthansa in Germany is currently causing a stir; it is obviously not a genuine Lufthansa slogan, but a message from climate activists.

Action against airlines

In the course of the brandalism” campaign, they have pasted over or spray-painted the advertising posters of airlines all over Europe. In doing so, their aim is to point out that airlines are among the main producers of harmful emissions and are thus partly to blame for climate change. The hashtag they’re using to highlight the action is #BanFossilAds.

In addition to Lufthansa, Ryanair and British Airways, among others, were also targeted. A Ryanair poster was pasted over with pictures of flight attendants in respirators posing in front of a mountain of plastic waste; above them, the words “Low Fares to Plastic Island” can be read, and Ryanair became “Ruinair”. British Airways posters were painted over with the message “No clean way to fly”.
