Let them eat cheeseburgers: Delta to serve Shake Shack in First Class

Starting this December, travelers departing from Boston's Logan International Airport on select flights can enjoy a cheeseburger from the popular fast-casual chain as part of their in-flight meal options.

Airplane food has been the butt of countless stand-up routines, with its reputation for being monotonous and unappetizing one of the more harmless allegations. And while first class arguably has better options, it still tends to be completely overpriced and rarely worth it. Delta Air Lines is about to change that: From December onward, first-class passengers will be able to pre-select a cheeseburger from the fast casual chain "Shake Shack" on selected long-haul flights from Boston, with further routes within the US already in the works.

Airlines generally try hard to stand out with exclusive meal options, especially in  premium first class, with Delta presenting a revised wine list just a few days ago. This latest offer seeks to give passengers what they want while maintaining an exclusive feel – and with Shake Shack founder, Danny Meyer, haing previously collaborated with the airline on other menu options, it was a no-brainer. The New York-based company can already be found at 19 airports in the US and plans to open at Boston's Logan International Airport before the end of the year. This means that soon, economy passengers can also bring Shake Shack burgers on board.

"Shake Shack is always looking for new and innovative ways to meet our guests where they are, even at 35,000 feet. We are proud to partner with Delta as we seek to elevate in-flight dining and hospitality for travelers across the country," as Michael Kark, Shake Shack's president of global licensing, told Restaurant Business.
