London’s oldest hotel keen to help celebrate the King’s Coronation
Brown’s of Mayfair has prepared a number of monarch-themed delights including an English Garden Afternoon Tea.
Luxury hotel Brown’s will launch a series of royal-themed offerings in May to celebrate the Coronation on Saturday, May 6, including an English garden-themed afternoon tea which pays homage to the new King’s love of all things horticultural.
In partnership with Boodles, taking inspiration from the upmarket jewellers’ Secret Garden and Woodland jewellery collection, guest will be offered finger sandwiches and pastries with fresh flowers whilst enjoying the floral installation by Brown's in-house florist, Ellie Hartley. With beekeeping much-admired within the Royal Family, the crown jewel of the tea will be a delicate cake in the shape of a beehive that will be drizzled with Highgrove Honey when served. King Charles’ favourite cake, fruit loaf, will also be served on a traditional tea trolley.
Guests will also be given intricately hand-painted postcards on which they can write messages to congratulate the King before posting them in the pink Boodles post-box inside the hotel; all letters will be delivered to Buckingham Palace.
For Coronation week, May 3-10, Michelin-starred chef Adam Byatt and his team will also prepare and serve King’s Dover Sole, using the finest British fish and the King’s own Organic English Asparagus from the organic Duchy brand. To mark the special occasion, a portrait of King Charles III will be displayed in Charlie’s Restaurant.
The hotel will also be serving the King's Elixir, a drink worthy of toasting the health of the monarch: a fragrant aperitif blending Berry Bros & Rudd No.3 Gin with its signature King’s Ginger liqueur, a tonic made for King Edward VII. Served in a Martini coupette with an orange zest garnish, guests can delight in the delicate interplay of ginger, zesty citrus and fragrant botanicals at the Donovan Bar and Charlie’s Bar.
