Southern cuisine arrives in Vienna's 5th district: The new daytime bar Contigo introduces Portuguese flavors to Schwarzhorngasse.

Vienna offers a wide range of international cuisines - from Korean to Japanese and Italian. Portuguese gastronomy, however, has so far been comparatively underrepresented. That may now be changing: Last Saturday, the new daytime bar Contigo im Senhor Vinho opened in the 5th district, located within the premises of the well-established Portuguese restaurant Senhor Vinho. The culinary focus is on breakfast, brunch, lunch and tapas, all inspired by Portuguese cuisine.

With Contigo, Managing Director Verena dos Santos-Trestl fulfills a long-held ambition. Although she had previously gained experience in the catering industry and worked with catering partners, she mostly remained in the background. With the opening of the daytime bar, she is now stepping into entrepreneurship herself.

The focus on Maritime cuisine

From Tuesday to Friday, between 8.30 am and 3 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm, the daytime bar serves a selection of hot and cold dishes - raw and cooked, savory or sweet. A classic Viennese breakfast is also part of the menu. "We spent a long time working on the composition and carefully considered what we could leave out to keep it concise. Nevertheless, we didn't want to give up the Viennese breakfast," explains Managing Director Verena dos Santos-Trestl in an interview with Falstaff.

The offering invites guests on a culinary journey to the south with various breakfast options and dishes such as octopus salad, chickpeas with coriander and Portuguese goat's cheese or Portuguese shakshuka. The breakfast and brunch menu is complemented by a weekly changing lunch menu served until 2 p.m., as well as a selection of tapas. The daytime bar closes at 3 p.m. in order to prepare the space for the restaurant's regular evening service. The "Contigo" is currently still in the soft-opening phase, but should be fully operational by the end of February.
