The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024

Best restaurants

The prestigious list of the 50 best restaurants in the world has been published. Who made it to the top of the ranking?

Every year, the presentation of The World's 50 Best Restaurants is an event that is eagerly awaited by the entire gastronomy world. Last night the time had come: The 50 most outstanding restaurants in the world were chosen for the 22nd time in Las Vegas. As always, in addition to the list of best restaurants, some restaurants and personalities also received special awards, including a renowned restaurant from Germany.

Germany and Austria can rejoice

Heinz and Birgit Reitbauer can once again celebrate a top ranking in the international best list. The Steirereck secured 22nd place in this year's World's 50 Best Restaurant Ranking. This makes the Viennese high-end institution the highest-rated restaurant in the German-speaking world. Last year, the team finished in 18th place.

Germany and Switzerland are also strongly represented in the top 50: The Restaurant Tim Raue in Berlin makes it to 30th place, Berlin's Nobelhart & Schmutzig takes 43rd place and Schloss Schauenstein in Switzerland ranks 47th. The extended ranking with places 51-100 was published in advance, with numerous newcomers from Germany. The Nobelhart & Schmutzig can also look forward to a sustainability award, the Sustainable Restaurant Award.

Two placings for Nordics

Two Nordic countries can also rejoice. The Alchemist in Copenhagen landed in 8th place. The setting is unlike any other place in the world, and so is the food, which is experienced as a journey through different rooms. Divided into several acts like a theater performance, this unique experience takes guests through various locations, types of art, and extraordinary craftsmanship. The Frantzén in Stockholm was also delighted with its placement. It was ranked 35th out of the 50 best in the world. The restaurant was awarded 100 points in the Falstaff Restaurant Guide Nordic 2024.

Little movement in the top 5: Disfrutar in Barcelona at number 1

In second place last year, now in first place: Disfrutar in Barcelona, closely followed by Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo and Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris. The Spanish region is also represented in the top 5 with two more listings: The DiverXO in Madrid is in fourth place, followed by Maido in Lima. According to the rules, last year's winner – the Peruvian Central – is no longer in the ranking, but has been included in the Hall of Fame of the Best of the Best.

Also the culinary Nordics ranks high in the list: Copenhagens Alchemist achieved position No. 9, Frantzén in Stockholm is at positon 35.

The gastronomic ranking is chosen by more than a thousand international restaurant professionals and gourmets who make up The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy. This year, restaurants from 26 countries and five continents are represented, including eight newcomers. Particularly noteworthy is the Wing in Hong Kong, which debuts at number 20.
