Three Restaurants Redefining the Stockholm Lunch Hour
Stockholm’s lunch scene is getting a serious upgrade. At Petri, Celeste and Copine, the midday meal is treated with the same precision and care as dinner – but in a format that works just as well for a quick business lunch as for an leisurely, indulgent feast.
Restaurant Petri
The scent of freshly baked bread fills the room as lunch guests begin to trickle in at Petri. The acclaimed fine-dining restaurant just recently opened its doors for lunch from Tuesday to Friday – and this is no quick fix. The quality, flavors, and ingredient-driven philosophy are just as sharp as they are at dinner, but presented in a more accessible, carefully crafted format.
Lunch is served in two acts. First comes bread with butter, a warming soup, and a small starter. Then follows the main course – either one of the daily specials or a signature dish. The menu is designed to suit both those on a tight schedule and those who prefer to linger a bit longer. Guests are also welcome to order additional dishes and dessert. When we were there, we rounded off the visit with a lovely kouign amann, warm and buttery, filled with blueberries.
Behind the concept is Petter Nilsson, renowned for his uncompromising focus on organic ingredients from local producers. Using techniques that allow each component to shine, he’s built a culinary universe that’s now available in the middle of the day. For those who want more of Nilsson’s cooking, he also runs the café at Svenskt Tenn.
Copine
An Östermalm favorite for almost ten years now, Copine has reopened after the summer with an elegant food bar at the heart of the dining room. Here, fifteen seats offer a direct view into the kitchen – a deliberate move to create a more interactive and relaxed atmosphere without compromising on elegance. And it works beautifully.
Our lunchtime visit to sample what’s new was met with a menu that’s evolved with confidence. Beloved classics like the signature corn bread and steak tartare remain, now joined by new dishes that bring added variety and personality.
To start, we try airy gougères with Västerbotten cheese and a bleak roe tartlet with Svecia cheese cream. For the main course, we enjoy turbot in butter sauce infused with fermented white asparagus, paired with a fried zucchini blossom and salted lemon – a dish as polished as it is vibrant. Ten years on, Copine proves that longevity and innovation can go hand in hand. Lunch is served Tuesday through Friday.

Celeste
The acclaimed rooftop restaurant and bar Celeste has recently welcomed a sibling – a lunch spot with big ambitions, located in the same building and open Monday to Friday. When we spoke with Danny Falkeman, who runs the venue with Fia Grönborg, he explained that the new venture is both an extension and a complement to Celeste.
The menu features several classics familiar from the rooftop, such as lobster rolls and steak tartare, along with other dishes: weekly specials of meat and fish (with more to come over time) as well as lighter lunch options like salads and bowls for those looking for a quicker meal. Takeaway is also available, and businesses can have food delivered directly to them.
In the evenings, larger groups can enjoy a tailor-made Celeste experience in a more intimate setting; the space can also be booked for private events. With its new lunch spot, Celeste expands its reach beyond the evening crowd – a natural next step for one of Stockholm’s most lofty addresses.
