At least as good as beautiful: Nuss-Schober with mulled wine

A moist cake that is soaked in mulled wine to top it all off? Of course!

For the dough

Ingredients (6 servings)
8 Eggs
200 g Sugar
80 g Walnuts or pumpkin seeds, grated
80 g Flour
80 g Cocoa
2 tablespoon(s) Breadcrumbs (+ a little more for the mold)
1/2 teaspoon(s) Cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon(s) Clove powder

For the icing

Ingredients (6 servings)
200 g Powdered sugar
3 tablespoon(s) Red wine, strong

For the mulled wine

Ingredients (6 servings)
1 l Red wine
1 Cinnamon bark
6-8 Cloves
Peel of 1 organic orange
Sugar to taste
  • Beat the eggs with the sugar until thick and fluffy.
  • Mix the nuts, flour, cocoa and breadcrumbs well and carefully fold into the egg mixture.
  • Bake for approx. 1 hour at 180 °C in a well-greased and crumb-coated cake tin. Leave to cool.
  • Turn the cake out onto a rack. Mix the powdered sugar with the red wine to make a glaze and pour over the cake. Leave the icing to set for approx. 30 minutes.
  • To make the mulled wine, bring the wine and spices to the boil, cover and leave to infuse for at least 15 minutes.
  • To serve, pour the mulled wine into serving bowls, place the cake in portions and serve with whipped cream.
