"Nestor" stands for wines with a strong character and unmistakable provenance. Since 2019, Günther Neukamp & Thomas Stadler have wanted to make expressive wines with clearly recognisable provenances and market them internationally: Multi-layered soils around Halbturn and the special microclimate around Lake Neusiedl, one of the largest steppe lakes in Europe, give the "Nestor" wines their special character and expression.
The characterful style of the wines is individual, genuine and terroir-oriented. Climate and soil conditions are skilfully interpreted. All varieties are uncompromisingly given their modern Burgenland character. This new cool style stands for drinkability, complexity and spontaneously fermented wines with the lowest possible alcohol content. The special soils give the wines a very special typicity.
The Stadler family's 42 hectares of vineyards around Halbturn have been producing excellent grapes for more than 40 years. The best single-vineyard wines find their way to wine lovers all over the world under the "Nestor" brand. Consciously reducing the quantities in the sustainably cultivated vineyards, consistent selection during the harvest and elaborate and technically demanding vinification processes create exceptional wines with a special character that can be stored.
Almost all premium wines are matured on the fine lees in limited quantities of 3,000 to 4,000 bottles per variety in French barriques and 500-litre oak barrels from renowned cooperages. Batonnage and 12 (white) or 18 (red) months of barrel ageing create elegant wine rarities that open their drinking window just two years after the harvest. Vintage and varietal typicity determine the characteristics of the wines. In particular, the area planted with Cabernet Franc and Pinot Gris has been further increased since 2019 due to very high demand.
