Krems has been the new home of Conny and Wolfgang Wandraschek since 1970. They worked in architecture, but soon discovered their love of wine. Their favourite variety, Cabernet Sauvignon, is planted in the house vineyard. "A barrel for me and my friends," says Wolfgang Wandraschek. The contents of the barrel eventually became the first "Falstaff Varietal Winner", followed by three more first places (1999, 2005 and 2014).
This was the beginning of a passion that has now also taken hold of son Gregor. He has already taken over the family business with just under two hectares - and the trend is rising. Many are already talking about a "little piece of Bordeaux in the Kremstal", as the Wandraschek wine manufactory is a fine boutique winery at the highest level. The red wines are aged for two years in French barrique barrels so that they become harmonious, stable and clear. Gregor and his father Wolfgang see themselves as creative craftsmen. They try to come as close as possible to the perfection of great red wines by working predominantly by hand. But there is more: in addition to high-quality red wines as well as rosé and sparkling wines, they have recently started to vinify Grüner Veltliner and Riesling of equally high quality from top vineyards such as Steiner Kögl.
Together with Gregor, Conny Wandraschek is responsible for marketing and sales and is also happy to organise stylish wine events and private tastings at the winery.
