Weingut Doktor Wunderer offers a glimpse into the future - and a bright, inspiring, and a responsible one at that. Located in one of the coolest regions of Austria - in the northern Weinviertel and directly bordering the rugged Waldviertel to the west - it takes advantage of the climatic variation and creates wines here that are driven by the freshness and mineral tensity for which Austria wines have become so renowned.
Dr. Gerald Wunderer, a doctor by profession, has made his family's dream come true and, together with his partner Matthias Lobner, has developed around ten hectares of vineyards into a sophisticated and sustainable wine project. In this cool region, Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner thrive on the primary rock and loess soils to mature into the most exquisite aromas, without ever becoming heavy or overpowering. Winemaker Bernd Karaus creates a fragrant cuvée that, despite its lithe character, boasts impressive complexity and purity, thus raising the term "easy-drinking" to a whole new level. Also fascinating are the Grüner Veltliner single-vineyard site wines, which are characterised by freshness and depth simultaneously and thus radiate a unique appeal.
In general, 'attraction' is an important element at the Doktor Wunderer winery. A special bottle shape was lovingly chosen for the elegant yet fresh style of the reserve wines - and above all a label that reflects the family's medical background with an unmistakable nod towards this: The senses for pleasure and desire as well as the vital physical and emotional instincts are depicted in a pastel blue torso. This refers to the eternal interplay between the cultivated pleasure of wine and the harmonious sensuality of man. Who could know more about these essential interactions than a doctor? From this holistic point of view, it is also very important to the team at the Doktor Wunderer winery that the wines are primarily served as accompaniments to food, which in turn leads to a harmonious ensemble.
Incidentally, the winery is managed in accordance with the principles of organic farming (currently in conversion). The construction of a winery with a sustainable concept is currently being planned.
