The majority of the ten-hectare Preisinger-Reinberger organic winery is planted with white wine varieties, but fine, full-bodied red wines are also vinified on the side. The family attaches great importance to a lot of manual work. "I think you can tell the difference straight away," says Rupert Reinberger. The deliberate avoidance of pesticides and active greening management in the vineyards are a matter of course, and so the conversion to organic farming with the 2023 vintage was the only logical consequence.
The old loess cellar, which is a perfect maturation cellar for wines with a longer maturation phase, is the jewel of the house and at the same time stands for the special nature of this landscape, the Wagram: its up to 40 metre high terrain level of glacial loess is the typical breeding ground for the vines. It gives the wine its distinctive character, which is so highly valued.
The organic winery is quite large on a small scale. Many private customers and restaurateurs have come to know and appreciate the consistently beautiful wines - from Austria to Germany to the USA. What it takes is time - to enjoy the wine and also to enjoy life.
"It was a kind of double love that brought me to wine and to which I owe the way we vivid ourselves as a winery today. Fels am Wagram is my home town, somehow you can't avoid wine, tradition and the enjoyment of life when you grow up here. It's about respecting the soil, the grapes, the product wine as a whole - if you like it, it will inevitably become your love. And that's how it was for me too. Then came Eva-Maria, the daughter of a winegrower, now a doctor and my wife. Without further ado, I abandoned my studies in mechanical engineering - and went straight into working in the vineyard and cellar," says Rupert Reinberger. His father-in-law Franz taught him the centuries-old tradition of winemaking step by step. Learning by doing plus a course for skilled workers and master winemakers were added. He is a connoisseur, time for drinking is important to him. He doesn't like the fast pace, it has to be considered. That's why he wants to produce honest, gluggable, clear wines that are convincing. And there should be one for every palate. The "echt lössige" wines are light, young and fresh. Ruppersthal, with its southwest-facing vineyards in loess gravel, is home to the top vineyard Mordthal. In Unterstockstall lies the Rainthal, where its single-vineyard wines are grown. The "Wagram Stölln" vineyard is terraced with its medium-bodied classics - typical Wagram.
Innovative events such as "Chilling in the Sundown Lounge" in the middle of the vineyard with finger food and DJ or Austrian-Asian fusion cuisine as Wagram sushi with sustainable regional fish, seasonal vegetables and wine accompaniment break new ground. Those who prefer a more classic approach can indulge in regional Heurigen delicacies at the Weinherbst.
