Falstaff Wine Guide Germany 2026

The Scherr family has beautiful vineyards on the edge of the Haard in the Pfalz Forest and has been growing grapes since the 18th century. That's why Andreas and Karin Scherr can say today: "Our wines are a piece of the Southern Pfalz." They speak of a precious culture that arises from the interplay of climate and soil. Typical Pfalz varieties take centre stage: first and foremost Riesling and white and red Burgundy. This year's collection is led by a full-bodied Chardonnay and the red wine cuvée "Leopold", composed of four sites and varieties; our tip is the savoury Scheurebe.

"Light, air and earth are the closest things to us," write Karin and Andreas Scherr, "our wines are created through the interplay of these elements - full of character, close to nature and typical of the Pfalz." These words reflect the closeness to nature of a family that has been practicing the winemaking trade since 1782. No wonder the company works according to the sustainability criteria of "Fair'n Green". The basic white wines from 2022 are characterised by a lively acidity and have a gastronomic format, while the "Prestige" wines matured in barriques show substance. Well done!
