The red wine Château Pavie, vintage 2003 from the winery Château Pavie has been rated in 2012 with 90 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the region St. Emilion in France.
Tasting Notes
Strong ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening. Delicate mint, but also balsamic undertones, some goudron, some kitchen vegetables, individual bouquet. Very powerful, also delicately herbal and spicy on the palate, nuances of cherries, firm tannins that appear somewhat angular, dries out a little on the finish, the hot vintage has certainly left its mark. Note: Robert Parker Jr. rated this wine young with an enormous 98+/100 points, which I cannot understand in 2012. Jancis Robinson, MW, rated it en primeur with 12/20 points and described the style reminiscent of port wine as "ridiculous", which led to a fierce media controversy between the two star tasters. The "green tannins" that Robinson cited could be responsible for the angularity that I also criticize. Perhaps we will be wiser in another ten years.
