The white wine Riesling Altenberg, Kanzem Erste Lage, vintage 2011 from the winery Weingut Van Volxem has been rated in 2012 with 95+ Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Riesling from the region Moselle in Germany.
Intense yellow colour. Great maturity and precision, finely spiced slate, subtle fruit - only in the context of the other Saar and Mosel wines does it become clear what a brilliant achievement Roman Niewodniczanski and his team have accomplished. No other VDP cru is as cool and precise. The Altenberg is particularly distinguished and elegant on the nose as well as on the palate; its playfulness and savoury, animating nature are remarkable despite its fullness and density. It will still take five to ten years before the true value of this great Saar Riesling can be fully appreciated. Great, complex finish, always fine, elegant and cool.
