The sweet and dessert wine Kanzem Altenberg Riesling Auslese, vintage 2017 from the winery Weingut Van Volxem has been rated in 2019 by Ulrich Sautter with 94 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Riesling from the region Moselle in Germany.
A fascinatingly layered nose with warm slate spice behind complex citrus fruit, plus a touch of very fine botrytis. Supple attack and then a very intense sweetness-acidity display, is neither an extract nor a sweetness monster, but an animating Auslese with a firm mineral finish.
More about the tastingA full mineral spiciness on the nose. Transparent structure on the palate, equally restrained in sweetness and acidity, almost light-bodied, not very viscous, very mineral again on the finish. Somehow almost a dry noble sweet Auslese.
