While Piwis are often used exclusively for entry-level wines, Schäfer winery in Mußbach shows real ambition. On the nose, the Sauvignac offers savoury and floral notes, but remains subtle in expression without exuberant aromatics. On the palate, the ripe fruit takes over, yellow gooseberry, pear, lots of power, but nothing overlapping here either. Very skillfully and intelligently made.
