The Falstaff Gold List: The 10 most sustainable Hotels in Europe

Sustainability
Hotel

Hotels today are thinking more sustainably than ever before, and for guests too, a resource-conserving, fair approach to nature has long been a booking criterion. Falstaff TRAVEL has searched for the most responsible hotels in the Alpine region and compiled a "Gold List". Here is our top 10.

Whether "Green Key", "EU Ecolabel" or "Green Globe" - sustainability certificates have long been an integral part of the upscale hotel industry. They do not stand for a fleeting trend, but for a clear commitment. This commitment ranges from the conscious use of resources and waste to the active involvement of the local community. For the current "Gold List", Falstaff TRAVEL has honored those hotels in the "Falstaff Hotels Guide" that impress with biophilic design, sustainable architecture, regional roots, innovative strength and recognized seals.

1st Eco Hotel Saltus - San Genesio, Italy (50 out of 50 points)
Nature sets the direction here; respecting and preserving it is the central mission. A biophilic concept was adopted during the construction phase, local building materials and renewable energies were used and care was taken to ensure that the landscape can be enjoyed from every angle.

2nd Steirereck am Pogusch - Pogusch, Austria (49 out of 50 points)
An almost energy self-sufficient paradise with original tree, glass and bird houses that create a direct connection to nature.

3rd Stoos Lodge - Stoos, Switzerland (48 out of 50 points)
Innovative: braking energy and waste heat from the Stoosbahn are used to generate heat in order to save fossil resources.

4. Klosterhof Alpine Hideaway & Spa - Bayerisch Gmain, Germany (47 out of 50 points)
The first hotel in Germany to be awarded the EU Ecolabel - the foundations for this were laid at the planning stage and then consistently pursued during implementation, including through energy-efficient solutions.

5th Tauber's Biovital Hotel - St. Sigmund/Kiens, Austria (46 out of 50 points)
An organic hotel from skin to heart - built according to building biology criteria and geared towards the responsible use of resources.

6th Olm Nature Escape - Sand in Taufers, Italy (45 out of 50 points)
An all-round consistent idea; the circular economy and cradle-to-cradle principle have significantly shaped the circular construction.

7th Biohotel Rupertus - Leogang in Salzburger Land, Austria ( 44 out of 50 points)
A certified organic hotel for 20 years - sustainability and organic quality are firmly anchored in their DNA.

8th Theiner's Garten-Das Biorefugium - Gargazon near Merano, Italy ( 43 out of 50 points)
Sleeping on natural mattresses and culinary delights from the hotel's own organic farm or fresh from the garden, bringing guests into harmony with nature.

9th Cervo Mountain Resort - Zermatt, Switzerland ( 42 out of 50 points)
The nature-loving Alpine retreat covers 99% of its energy requirements with geothermal energy and heat recovery systems.

10th Strandhaus Spreewald - Lübben, Germany (41 out of 50 points)
Nordic design and nature experience in the middle of the Spreewald; innovative solutions help to minimize the ecological footprint.
