Top 5 coffee bars in Copenhagen
Copenhagen’s coffee culture has become almost synonymous with enjoying specialty coffee from local micro-roasters on a regular basis. Below are the top five places you must explore if you're a true coffee lover visiting Denmark’s capital.
Coffee is undoubtedly an essential part of daily routines for many people around the world, and in Copenhagen, this often means visiting one of the city's excellent niche coffee bars. Finding a cup of high-quality coffee, with beans sourced from sustainable farms and roasted locally, is now more common than the opposite in coffee bars, cafés, and restaurants – a privilege that should not be taken for granted. In this guide, let’s explore what five of the top coffee bars, and equally impressive micro-roasters, in Copenhagen have to offer.
Coffee Collective
The Copenhagen-based micro-roastery Coffee Collective, which has been thriving since it opened in 2007, was quick to make a name for itself in Denmark’s ever-growing specialty coffee scene. Thanks to the early interest, dedication, and hard work of its three founders – Peter, Casper, and Klaus –they have not only left their mark on the international coffee scene but have also managed to open seven coffee bars and even one bakery (Collective Bakery, which provides pastries for all of their shops). Here, you can enjoy everything from espresso-based drinks to pour-overs and filter brews. When summer arrives, they bring out their much-loved coffee soft ice cream, which is a must-try. For those wanting to explore coffee in more depth, they also offer courses in espresso making, latte art, and general coffee knowledge, as well as coffee-tasting events.

Prolog
If you're looking for a new spot with a focus squarely on specialty coffee, then Prolog might just become your new favourite in town. Established in 2016 by founders Sebastian and Jonas, Prolog’s mission is "to add to the quality of life by giving people better coffee experiences." With two locations – one in Østerbro and another in Kødbyen – you have two ways to experience this coffee journey, with both shops open every day of the week. Recently, Prolog coffee has also become increasingly available at cafés across the city that maintain high standards for what they serve. You can usually recognise it by Prolog’s distinctive blue branding, which also decorates the interiors of their coffee bars. At these shops, you can also stock up your coffee cupboard with fresh beans from Prolog.

La Cabra
The story of La Cabra initially started in Aarhus back in 2012, but has now moved to a larger roastery in Copenhagen to cater for the large interest for their coffee around the world. Also in Copenhagen, stuffed in a corner inside the clothing store of Another Aspect, La Cabra has a tiny coffee bar! Here you are able to enjoy La Cabras coffee either as espresso, cappuccino or perhaps as an ice latte while either sitting down at one of their few seats inside or outside or bringing it with you on the go. If staying put on the location however, you get the benefit of enjoying the barista's magnificent latte art served in beautiful handmade cups. Don’t be all too surprised to find a swan floating on top of your coffee, just saying! Being open from Monday to Sunday you are able to enjoy La Cabra every day of the week, and during those hours when the shop is closed then you also have the option to buy a bag of beans with you home.

Andersen & Maillard Coffee Shop & Roastery
Not only do Andersen & Maillard at their coffee shop and roastery in Nørrebro serve up some great coffee and other caffeinated beverages, they also have some of the most fantastic pastries you will be able to find throughout Copenhagen as well. So much so that also being a coffee roaster almost hides behind their photogenic pastries they have selling like hotcakes, their Croissant Cube being one of them. After opening in 2018 to offer the best coffee shop experience in Copenhagen, their popularity has proven them right. The fact that they also roast their specialty coffee beans at this location, you can imagine, spreads a lovely scent throughout the entire space inviting you to stay for longer periods of time – this is quite literally where the magic happens. When the warmer days come, definitely don’t miss out on their Summer menu with coffee drinks and their soft ice cream made with coffee, served in a split up croissant. Delicious, just like their coffee.
