World's Largest Bottle of Scotch Set to be Auctioned

The Edinburgh-based auction house Lyon & Turnbull will sell a 311-litre bottle of 32-year-old Macallan single-malt called ‘The Intrepid’ on May 25.

‘The Intrepid’, which contains 311 litres of the finest Macallan 1989 whisky (43% ABV), and stands over 1.8 metres tall, will go up for auction on May 25. The special event is being billed as  offering "pioneering collectors a once in a lifetime opportunity to take their place in the whisky hall of fame."

Last year, ‘The intrepid’ was verified by Guinness World Records as the world's largest bottle of whisky, shattering the previous record by 83 litres.

Edinburgh-based auctioneer Lyon & Turnbull will sell the bottle along with a selection of standard and miniature-sized whisky bottles containing the same 1989 Macallan from two sister casks. Lyon & Turnbull has not announced a sale estimate but ‘The Intrepid’ is predicted to break the world record for the most expensive whisky ever sold at auction.

A quarter of any amount over $1.6 million/£1.3 million will be donated to the Marie Curie charity, which supports people with terminal illnesses, according to WalesOnline.

'The Intrepid' Collection will be sold in a live online auction on 25 May. For more information, visit the Lyon & Turnbull website
