Hollywood star creates his own gin brand

Brad Pitt will use Cannes Film Festival to launch his latest drinks project.

He may be better known for his acting and his looks, but Brad Pitt is creating a bit of a stir in the drinks industry, now backing up his wine enterprise with his own gin: The Gardener.

The Fight Club star has teamed up with the Perrin Family and renowned distiller Tom Nichol, the launch of the new product coming at this week’s Cannes Film Festival (May 16 to 27). Earlier this year, Pitt’s Champagne brand, Fleur de Miraval, was served at the Oscars, the second-year running the biggest night in the movies industry has been toasted by a drink produced by one of their own.

Now, screen stars from both in front and behind the camera will be raising a glass in the south of France with what has been described as a London-style dry gin created on the French Riviera: made in copper stills, it combines traditional botanicals juniper, liquorice, angelica and coriander with pink grapefruit, bright lemon and sweet and bitter orange from the Cap d’Antibes area, just a few miles along the coast from Cannes.

“Radiating the French Riviera spirit around the world, The Gardener Gin celebrates an incomparable Night & Day art-de-vivre that the exceptional Cannes Festival has embodied for over half a century,” the company said.

Tom Nichol is one of the most famous names in the drinks industry, the man behind the legendary Tanqueray 10 gin, and someone known to have one the finest knowledges of all things related to distilling, botanicals and flavour. He retired from Diageo in 2015 after a 42-year career, and his in-depth know-how has been used on a number of drinks projects since then.

As well as his new gin, Pitt owns Château Miraval in Provence which he bought in 2008 with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, the Champagne brand created there a tie-up of two winemaking families: the Perrins in the Rhône and the Péters who have produced Champagne for six generations.
