Copenhagen named World Capital of Architecture

Copenhagen
Award

Copenhagen has officially joined the architectural elite. Named UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture through 2026, the Danish capital is being celebrated for its design excellence, sustainable urban planning and exceptional quality of life.

Few cities embody innovative design quite like Copenhagen. UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) have named the Danish capital the World Capital of Architecture through 2026, recognising its rich architectural heritage and pioneering approach to urban development.

The accolade highlights Copenhagen's ambitious climate goals, sustainable solutions and liveability—qualities that have turned the city into a global model for future urban living.

It is also home to some of the world's most influential architecture firms, including Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), Henning Larsen Architects, Cobe, Gehl Architects and 3XN, all of which continue to shape the international design landscape.
