Barguide 2025

The best cocktails can be found where passion and talent meet. Falstaff presents the hottest bars and most creative minds on the Swiss bar scene.

Numerous awards were presented in various categories, including Host of the Year, Most Innovative Bartender and many more. The country's best bars and bartenders were honored for their outstanding achievements in the field of cocktail culture. Falstaff congratulates all 2025 award winners!

Host of the year

Tim Michel, Bar Capitol, Lucerne

The Bar Capitol has been attracting guests from near and far since 2006. They appreciate the pleasant ambience, the perfectly mixed drinks, cocktails and the warm hospitality. The latter has been provided by Tim Michel, a host with heart and soul, for almost twenty years. For him, his bar is family, home and a project close to his heart – and you can tell.

Bartender of the year

Martin Bornemann and Norbu Tsering, Herz Cocktailbar, Basel

The two busy bartenders Martin Bornemann and Norbu Tsering work behind the counter of the Herz bar. They stand for creative mixology in the middle of Kleinbasel, the seasonal cocktails contain a lot of homemade ingredients. The location of the bar is a stroke of luck for them, as it is right next to the Stadtbrennerei – perfect for collaborations.

Most innovative bartender

Rafael Alario Girbes, CAAA, Lucerne

The opening of the CAAA restaurant in Lucerne made waves in the Swiss gourmet scene. It also includes a bar that pushes the boundaries of mixology. Rafael Alario Girbes' drinks are presented in a unique way; the first edition of the Flavor of Sounds cocktail menu, for example, shows what rustling autumn leaves taste like.

Rookie bartender

Matthias Loch, The Palace Bar, Engelberg

Matthias Loch is a passionate bartender with a love for detail. In the Palace Bar, he serves his creative or classic cocktails to an illustrious clientele from all over the world and is always up for a chat. With his passion for his profession and his flair for good products, he is guaranteed to remain part of the Swiss bar scene for a long time to come.

Bar jewel

Einstein Bar, St. Gallen

Although the Einstein Bar was only opened in 1983, it shines in the splendor of times long past. Dark wood and leather sofas give it the dignified atmosphere of an English club. A young and passionate team serves over 100 whisk(e)ys as well as fine wines and mixes cocktails that combine tradition and modernity.

New opening of the year

Tipsy Tiger, Zurich

In this new bar you will be doubly happy, because there are two restaurants under one roof – each with a completely different ambience. The Tipsy Tiger on the first floor serves cocktails on tap and fantastic fast food. The elegant Dry Club on the upper floor is quite different. It offers creative mixology and complex fine food bites.

American Bar

Canvas Bar, Dolder

The newly renovated Canvas Bar stands for sophisticated drinking pleasure in a stylish ambience: Paintings by top–class artists hang on the walls, while head mixologist Matthieu Doucet provides the works of art in the glass. On the menu: innovative cocktails and newly interpreted classics, fine wines, fine spirits and great bar food from The Dolder kitchen.

Restaurant bar

Eden Kitchen & Bar, Hotel Eden au Lac, Zurich

Whether before dinner in the elegant gourmet restaurant Eden Kitchen for a relaxed aperitif or later in the evening for a cocktail with background music, a visit to the Eden Bar is always worthwhile. Minimalist, sophisticated cocktails, exquisite wines and selected spirits are served, as well as delicious, down–to–earth snacks.

Hotel bar

Lakeview Cigar Lounge & Bar, Bürgenstock Resort

The Bürgenstock Resort luxury hotel is legendary; the international jet set has been meeting here for decades. But even without a room in the hotel, you can enjoy the wonderful view and hospitality in the Lakeview Bar after a short ride on the funicular. Sophisticated, creative signature cocktails and exciting mocktails!
