France Requires Visitors to Hold Health Pass to Access Attractions
Visitors to attractions across France must show proof of Covid vaccination or a recent negative Covid-19 test.
France expands “health pass” scheme
Visitors to certain attractions in France are now required to hold proof of vaccination or recent negative Covid-19 test, which must be displayed in the form of a health pass (in paper or digital form). The digital pass can be displayed using the TousAntiCovid smartphone app. Visitors who do not have access to the app can download their vaccination certificate online. On August 9, France expanded its “health pass” scheme – it is now required for restaurants, cafes and long-distance train journeys. The pass has been required since July for anyone going to the cinema, theatre or a museum.
How does the rule apply?
The pass is available to those who can show evidence of one of the following:
- Being fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (two doses of an EU-approved vaccine: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson)
- Having tested negative for the virus within three days
- Having recovered from Covid-19 between 15 days and six months previously
People who enter a venue without a valid health pass can be fined a minimum of €135 (for the first offence) and a maximum of €750. Three offences within a six-month period could lead to a fine of up to €3,750 and a six-month jail sentence.
Currently, children under the age of 12 are exempt from the new rule. From 30 August, children between the ages of 12 and 17 will also be required to show a health pass to enter the various establishments. There are some places such as supermarkets and essential shops where a health pass isn’t necessary.
