Top-Locations for People Watching in Salzburg

Here is the opportunity to meet the stars of the Salzburg Festival and the haute volee.

Triangel

Still one of the places where people meet – before, during and after the performances or simply during a stroll through the city. Many festival celebrities meet in the garden with a view of the Festspielhaus or inside in the vaults. Ever since Anna Netrebko and co. chose this place as their ‘break room’, so to speak, people have come here to see and be seen. And, of course, to eat and drink. Festival chatter almost always included.

Café Bazar

A coffee house institution, not only at festival time. Tout Salzburg and the world of festival artists can be found here on the terrace or inside. People read newspapers, enjoy each other’s company, or simply call in for a chat from breakfast to an evening snack before enjoying the arts. Sausage and egg dishes, for example, grandiose ham hocks or light salads, and dishes of the day. Afterwards, it has to be something sweet. It’s summer in Salzburg and anything is possible.

Sacherbar

“Sometimes the entire elegance of the Sacher experience is served in a simple cocktail glass,” according to hotel manager Angelique Weinberger. The Beatles once ordered a drink here in the beautiful ambience; today, many festival visitors, including celebrities, do the same, as does everyone who wants to end a special evening in an atmospheric way with perfect drinks. You can also do this on the bar terrace with its magnificent view.

Winkler am Wallersee

The restaurant and hotel with a lake view and probably the best local fish around is an oasis of tranquility, and perfect for a country outing with lots of enjoyment. No wonder then that generations of regulars have enjoyed a culinary rendezvous here with festival performers. Some come for the divine pancakes and the secret-recipe salad dressing, but all come for the fish, the beautiful view, the rooms for those that stay, with a memorable visit assured.

Gastgarten Blaue Gans

The ‘Blaue Gans’ is a real Salzburger, offering Mediterranean flavours the like of which you’ll struggle to find elsewhere. Olive trees and fragrant herbs together with delicious food make the guest garden a place-to-be without chichi, but with a lot of charm. The fact that many an artist ends the evening here after a performance has to do with host Andreas Gfrerer, but also with the proximity to the festival.

Resch & Lieblich

You almost can’t get any closer to the Festspielhaus and that’s why this small pub with a garden in the Toscaninihof has become a true festival hotspot. No sooner has the last curtain fallen, the last note faded, than actors, singers, directors, bogeymen and everyone comes here to enjoy sausages with juice, beer liqueurs, or the best goulash in town; not forgetting to chat about everything that makes Salzburg so unique during the festival season.

Bar Goldener Hirsch

In the tradition-rich hotel, the bar is also pure tradition. And a place where exceptional cocktails are given a special stage, for example, the signature drink ‘Susanne’, perfect for a stylish bar evening. Originally, the courtyard was reserved for horses, but today it’s the deer heads that look out on the famous and not-so-famous guests who enjoy every moment. Fine bar food is also available, of course.
