Iconic English beach used to film scenes for hit Netflix series

Tom Sturridge spotted at Durdle Door in Dorset where filming for The Sandman took place.

One of the most iconic beaches in the UK will be featured in the second series of the Netflix drama, The Sandman, actors including Tom Sturridge recently spotted filming scenes from the TV adaptation of the DC comic at Durdle Door in Dorset.

Production crews have been seen around the south coast region, with the beach among the locations used, the picturesque Jurassic Coast spot designated England’s first natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO back in 2001, joining the likes of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon in the USA.

The magnificent natural limestone arch has proved popular with directors of other TV and film productions, with Wonka, Ammonite and Future TX amongst productions which have used Durdle Door for filming, with the Pirates of the Caribbean also using the beach as a backdrop.

In the scenes filmed, Sturridge can be seen walking across the shingle beach in a set of black billowing robes, before he is joined by another actor in a set of white robes.

The Sandman is the story of Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, played by Sturridge, on his quest to regain his power after being imprisoned for more than 100 years. It premiered on Netflix in August 2022, and also stars Charles Dance, Stephen Fry and Jenna Coleman.
