Malmö is getting its own taco palace
Opened on May 26 by the team behind the beloved pizza spot Opopoppa, this new concept brings the same passion for quality, creativity, and laid-back dining vibes — with a twist. One to watch for food lovers craving the next hot address.
When David Calgaro and Calum Evans worked together at Dubbel Dubbel, they often talked about creating a more informal place to gather after shifts. That idea eventually took shape in 2019 as the New York-style slice shop Opopoppa, where they were among the first to bring the pizza-by-the-slice concept to the Nordics.
That same approach continues in their latest project: Tacopalatset.
“We want to do traditional food from Mexico, but push it a bit further. Finding the right ingredients, chilies and really deep diving into the flavours,” says Calum Evans. “At the same time, we want it to be a place where you can either stop by for tacos and drinks or settle in for a full evening with a set menu,” adds David Calgaro.
To source ingredients, they are working with smaller import businesses such as Kiosko Import, who also run their own bar and deli shop nearby.
The team also includes chef Albin Bengtsson, with them since Dubbel Dubbel and Opopoppa from day one, and longtime friend Viktor Andersson, whom Calgaro met while they worked in Lund’s music and food scene years ago.
Tacopalatset opens on May 26 and will operate Tuesday to Sunday.
