Michelin Guide: Switzerland gets a new 3-star restaurant

The 2022 Michelin stars for Switzerland have been presented, with 36 new starred restaurants including one that received three stars for the first time.

The Michelin Guide ceremony was back with a vengence this year in Switzerland after it was held virtually in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Top restaurants were presented with their stars at a ceremony at the EHL Hospitality Business School in Lausanne.

"The 2022 restaurant selection is an absolute record. In addition to the many new Michelin-starred restaurants, which have all impressed our inspectors, newly-minted three-star restaurant Memories of course deserves special recognition," said Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of Michelin Guides.

Sven Wassmer is at the helm of Memories, located in the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. "It's like a dream come true. What I do every day with my team is pure passion. It's unbelievable, thank you very much," said the newly-crowned chef.

Five new two-star restaurants

Five new restaurants received two stars, one of which, Skin's – the restaurant, made a remarkable leap straight to double stars shortly after its opening. The seasonal sister restaurants La Brezza in Arosa (in winter) and in Ascona (in summer), Igniv Zürich by Andreas Caminada and Roots were the other newcomers in the selection of 25 two-star restaurants.

Thirty restaurants were newly awarded one Michelin star. In total, the Guide features an  unprecedented 109 one-star restaurants spread across Switzerland. The anonymous judges noted one of these, KLE in Zurich, is the first purely vegan restaurant to win a star in the alpine country.

The restaurants that have already been awarded three stars will retain them in the Michelin Guide 2022: Among them are Andreas Caminada from Schloss Schauenstein, Peter Knogl from Le Cheval Blanc and Franck Giovannini from the Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville in Crissier.
