Restaurant Guide 2025: Falstaff presents the best restaurants in Austria
With over 2,050 entries in the new restaurant and inn guide, Falstaff's survey of the best culinary addresses in Austria is comprehensive.
Let's get to the most important thing first – and that is you, dear reader. For over 20 years, our community has diligently voted to ensure that Austria's chefs receive authentic feedback on their performance. Professional tasters and their views are one thing – there is no shortage of self-proclaimed expertise. But how you experience a restaurant as a paying guest is something completely different. Such unfiltered impressions are the backbone of the Falstaff Restaurant Guide's ratings: Each and every critique is part of the overall picture of Austrian gastronomy.
The more votes from the Falstaff community, the clearer the picture of the state of our kitchens and restaurants; and the more well-founded our recommendations. Rate your experiences and help improve culinary standards even further with – sometimes constructive –criticism, from diner to diner!
This year, our voters were very clear about admitting another new restaurant to the country's leading 100-point establishments. Thomas Dorfer and the "Landhaus Bacher" have been consistently at the top for decades – but the remodeling of the traditional tavern last year seems to have given the whole team an extra boost. Congratulations: The legendary restaurant in the Wachau region is now the fourth restaurant in the country with full marks, joining Steirereck, Amador and Ikarus!
There is also very good news from Vorarlberg. In addition to the consistently outstanding achievements of Julian Stieger's Chef's Table at Rote Wand, a second top chef emerged: Sebastian Jakob of the Griggeler Stuba in the Burg Vital Resort. What this young man from Germany conjures high above Lech really impressed our voters!
Finally, we would also like to take a closer look at Vienna, where we were particularly pleased to welcome Lukas Mraz of "Mraz & Sohn" again this year. These days, the challenges facing fine dining – from changing consumer habits and a new generation of connoisseurs – are ubiquitous. And there is hardly a chef who knows how to meet these challenges better than the young man with the beard: with great ideas, wit, flawless technique and great creativity on the plate. It is therefore a special pleasure for us to honor Lukas Mraz as "Chef of the Year 2025".
In this context, we would like to draw your attention to our new Falstaff Guide App, an indispensable companion for all gourmets. Not only will you find all the information about all restaurants in one place, you can also submit your ratings easily and effectively – thereby helping to choose next year's winners.
We, and hopefully you too, dear gourmet community, are delighted to see such strong signs of life on the scene. And we immodestly wish for more of them!
