Max Cekot Opens New Restaurant Kíce in Riga
Michelin-starred chef Max Cekot is opening a new chapter in Riga with Kíce — a contemporary restaurant that trades formal tasting menus for a more relaxed, shareable approach to dining.
Riga’s dining scene steps forward with the opening of Kíce Restaurant, a new contemporary restaurant by chef Max Cekot. Located in one of the city’s emerging industrial neighbourhoods, the 60-seat space introduces a more relaxed, everyday counterpart to the chef’s Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant Max Cekot Kitchen.
Designed around the idea of modern comfort food, Kíce combines a casual atmosphere with a carefully considered approach to ingredients and flavour. The interior balances warmth and minimalism, while the kitchen focuses on seasonality, product quality, and dishes intended for sharing and combining freely.
Rather than dividing the menu into starters and mains, the restaurant presents 21 individual dishes designed to be mixed according to appetite and mood. The selection changes regularly, reflecting both seasonal produce and the restaurant’s flexible approach to dining.
For Cekot, the opening marks another chapter in a career that has taken him from kitchens in New York and London — including experience at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants — back to his hometown of Riga. Together with his wife Natalia, he previously founded Max Cekot Kitchen, which became the first restaurant in Latvia to receive a Michelin star.
With Kíce, the chef shifts the focus from tasting menus to a more spontaneous format, while maintaining the same attention to balance, flavour, and attention to details that shaped his reputation.
