Salcombe Distilling happy to embrace the alcohol-free beverage market

UK

‘New London Light’ collection of non-alcoholic spirits and aperitifs sees the Devon distillery “get creative”.

The wine and spirits industry is experiencing a new approach to mindful drinking, especially with younger generations: mindful drinking is not restricted to certain times of the year, but is now becoming the new normal. This can be done by drinking alcohol less often, using drinks with a lower alcohol content or – maybe as a last resort – having periods of complete abstinence.

Salcombe Distilling in Devon is trying to take a big bite of this growing market with its brand ‘New London Light’, offering a collection of non-alcoholic spirits and aperitifs. The idea developed out of a dissatisfaction with alcohol-free spirits being seen as mere substitutes. Master Distiller Jason Nickels adopted new flavour combinations and a new production process to create non-alcoholic products.

“The non-alcoholic space is exciting and fast-growing and has provided us with an opportunity to get creative by exploring innovative techniques and processes,” said Howard Davies, Co-founder & Director at Salcombe Distilling Co. The company is trying to keep as much of the distillation process in-house as possible.

The New London Light spirits and aperitifs are low-calorie, allergen-free and without added sugar.

  • ‘First Light’ is inspired by gin-making principles with classic flavours of dry juniper, bright citrus and zesty ginger.
  • ‘Midnight Sun’ reminds us of Nordic shores with its coastal berries, fresh pine and kelp flavours.
  • ‘Aegean Sky’ tries to bring memories (or dreams) of the Mediterranean with bitter citrus & olive.

Salcombe Distilling Co. produces Salcombe Gin and New London Light non-alcoholic spirits at its distillery on Island Street, Salcombe, Devon.
