St. Moritz Gourmet Festival: Middle Eastern cuisine in Switzerland

Ten top international chefs invite you on a journey through the Middle East at more than 40 different epicurean events from 20 to 28 January 2023 in St. Moritz.

The last St. Moritz Gourmet Festival united some of the alpine country's best chefs under the motto "Swiss Made". The next incarnation will focus on Middle Eastern cuisine, with ten invited chefs taking guests on a culinary journey through the so-called MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). Think Arabic, Israeli, Lebanese, Syrian, Moroccan, Iranian and Turkish cuisine.

The Orient meets vegan

The ten chefs' creations will not only blend the influences of different cultures, but also combine traditional ingredients and preparation methods of the Middle East and North Africa with classic and new cooking techniques from Europe. Middle Eastern cuisine is strongly plant-based but fish and meat creations are also served up.

With culinary concepts from their home countries such as Bahrain, Israel, Syria, Turkey or Lebanon, the ten chefs run excellent fine-dining restaurants in metropolises such as Berlin, London and Paris. One of them is Musa Dağdeviren – the Turkish-born chef who opened the first of his three restaurants, Çiya, in Istanbul back in 1987. Musa, who has been called a food anthropologist for reviving old Turkish cooking techniques in a bid to keep them from becoming extinct, was featured in the renowned Netflix TV series Chef's Table in 2018.

More guest chefs for the 29th edition of the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival will be announced in the coming weeks.
