With just two ingredients, you can make a refreshing watermelon ice cream that is currently going viral on social media. The twist: the dessert is prepared directly inside the fruit – completely without an ice cream maker.

Who would have thought that half a watermelon and a little milk could turn into a creamy ice cream? Yet this two-ingredient recipe is currently delighting millions on social media – and it requires no ice cream maker at all.

The concept is as simple as it is clever. First, use a spoon to scrape out a small hollow in half a watermelon. Then place the watermelon in the freezer overnight. The next day, pour a little milk into the frozen hollow. Using a spoon, gradually scrape out the frozen flesh and mix it directly with the milk. The scraping creates a creamy consistency. Best of all, the recipe requires no additional sugar, cream or artificial ingredients. The watermelon’s natural sweetness provides the flavour, while the milk makes the ice cream wonderfully creamy.

Ingredients:

½ watermelon
A little milk (alternatively, a plant-based milk can also be used)

Method:
Use a spoon to scrape a small hollow into the half watermelon.
Freeze the watermelon overnight.
Pour a little milk into the frozen hollow.
Scrape out the frozen flesh with a spoon while mixing it with the milk.
Continue stirring and scraping until a creamy ice cream consistency forms. Serve immediately and enjoy.
