The CARO winery is a joint venture between Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) from France and Catena, a leading family business in Argentina. In 1999, these two houses developed the idea of collaboration and a concrete plan to produce a unique wine from two different cultures - French and Argentinian - from two grape varieties - Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon - and with the special expertise of both houses. In 2000, the first vintage of this unique wine was produced in a very limited edition. The wine cellars of Bodegas CARO were built in the heart of Mendoza and formed the basis of the CARO project. All the wines have been stored here since 2002. The barrels used come from the Domaines vineyards in Pauillac. The success of the first vintages of CARO prompted DBR (Lafite) and the Catena family to create another typically Argentinian wine, this time with the predominant grape variety Malbec, which, like its relatives, represents a harmonious balance of Argentinian provenance and Bordeaux style: Amancaya. The first vintage of Amancaya was in 2003. Finally, in 2010, a single-varietal entry-level Malbec called Aruma was created, which now completes the CARO trilogy.
