Cantina della Volta was established in 2010 as the initiative of a group of wine lovers who asked Christian Bellei to share a new project: giving continuity to the production of wines in Modena area adopting the Classic Method, widely used in France - better known as the Champenoise Method- namely the method of the natural fermentation in the bottle. Christian Bellei is the fourth generation of wine entrepreneurs in Bomporto di Modena. The activity was started by his grandfather Francesco Bellei in 1920 and later on inherited from his father Giuseppe, who led the winery family until the end of the nineties. Giuseppe Bellei, in the Modena known as "Beppe", succeeded to pass on Christian all his passion for oenology, working assiduously with his son and involving him in the different stages of wine processing. Father and son also shared numerous visits to Epernay, France, home to noble sparkling wines, attracted by Champagne charm. The purpose of these journeys was to study the production of wines with the Champenoise method, then apply it to the grapes processed in their Bomporto winery. This great passion for the Classic Method represents the living tradition that has led Christian Bellei until the birth of Cantina della Volta. The partners wanted Christian to respect one condition: continue to make wine “his own way", using all skills and oenological know-how inherited from his father and built with practice over the years.
