Ireland Pays New Residents to Move to Its Remote Islands
Dreaming of a life by the Atlantic? Ireland is offering grants of up to €70,000 as part of its "Our Living Islands" initiative, designed to attract new residents to some of the country's most picturesque offshore communities.
The program supports the purchase and renovation of vacant properties on selected islands, including Arranmore, Clare Island, Bere Island and Inis Mór. To qualify, homes must have been built before 1993 and left unoccupied for at least two years. The renovated property must also serve as a primary residence rather than a holiday rental.
Launched in 2023, the initiative aims to strengthen island communities by encouraging long-term settlement, supporting local infrastructure and creating opportunities for remote work. While the financial incentive is generous, participants must already have legal residency rights in Ireland, as the scheme does not provide a pathway to immigration.
For those eligible, however, the program offers a rare opportunity: a new home, a slower pace of life and a chance to become part of Ireland’s unique island culture.
