Kiko Opens at Copenhagen's Torvehallerne

Gourmet

In the beginning of July, restaurateur Jason Renwick, best known for his portfolio of restaurants and street food concepts, opened Kiko, a contemporary Japanese eatery that blends local danish ingredients with Japanese culinary craftsmanship.

Copenhagen's food market, Torvehallerne, has welcomed a noteworthy new arrival, Kiko. Designed as a modern, casual dining destination, Kiko offers an ingredientdriven menu that celebrates local Danish produce through refined Japanese techniques. The result is a collection of dishes that feel comforting and inviting guests to return.

Japanese Cuisine Rooted in Danish Produce

At the heart of Kiko's philosophy lies an uncompromising focus on local sourcing. Danish oysters from the island of Rømø feature alongside premium mushrooms grown at the team's own Funga Farm, whose produce also supplies more than 50 restaurants across Denmark.

The menu reflects this balance between simplicity and precision. Some of the dished you find on the menu includes a potato salad with bacon jam and katsuobushi, Hiramasa Sashimi on top of a bowllicking tomatojuice, and a generous donburi bowl showcasing seasonal ingredients.

The standout dish, however, is undoubtedly the Pork Katsu Sando a sandwich that could easily be among Denmark's very best at the moment. Freshly baked milk bread encloses pork that has been sous-vide for 16 hours before being finished to a crisp golden crust. A smoky, gently spicy relish and finely shredded cabbage complete the sandwich, creating an indulgent yet beautifully balanced bite.

From 16:00, Kiko also fires up its yakitori grill, serving skewers of mushrooms, pork and trout from Vejle Ådal, each prepared over open flames to enhance their natural flavours.

"We simply want to cook great food using local ingredients," says Jason Renwick. "Our focus is on delivering exceptional quality in every dish, and that's something we intend to keep doing."

A Relaxed Setting in the Heart of the City

While the cooking displays meticulous attention to detail, the atmosphere remains refreshingly informal. Surrounded by the lively energy of Torvehallerne, Kiko captures the essence of a Copenhagen summer, where market life, outdoor tables and the aromas of freshly prepared food create an unmistakably vibrant setting.

Guests can watch Thiago Maranhão, Brett Lavender and the rest of the Kiko team at work in the open kitchen as dishes are prepared and served as soon as they are ready. A style of dining that feels relaxed and perfectly suited to sharing.

Whether stopping by for a quick lunch, an afternoon bite or an evening gathering with friends, Kiko offers a dining experience that pairs thoughtful Japanese cooking with the very best of Denmark's seasonal ingredients. It is an effortless addition to Copenhagen's flourishing culinary landscape and an address well worth discovering this summer.
