"Waterside" Restaurants in Dubrovačko-neretvanska županija
Marijo Curić's gastronomic skills definitely do justice to the restaurant's fantastic location in the city fortress wall. In his home town, he combines dishes from Dubrovnik and Dalmatia with French craftsmanship and modern ideas. Excellent wine selection.
Head chef Marko Gajski creates modern Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on local produce - wild island plants, olive oil and excellent fish. Exotic flavours are always in evidence. The view of the sea and the islands from the terrace is breathtaking.
In a wildly romantic location by the crystal-clear water and surrounded by palm trees, the small Konoba offers simple island dishes. These include oysters, marinated seafood salad, crispy fried fish with potatoes and chard, as well as pasta that is second to none.
The Konoba's cozy interior makes it inviting at first glance. And as befits the island, you get the best oysters. But the other classics are also delicious: black risotto, octopus salad with vegetables, scallops au gratin or stews and pasta.
The Kralj family's restaurant - one of the top addresses when it comes to fresh oysters - is currently undergoing extensive renovations. Nevertheless, there is a small but fine selection in the alternative location next door: oysters are served in a variety of preparations. Scampi and grilled fish are delicious, and vegetarians will also be delighted with the excellent selection.
The restaurant is housed in a 15th-century house with stone vaulted ceilings and a great deal of flair. Beef tartare and marinated fish taste great with Croatian wines. With fritto misto, grilled chicken or Dalmatian-style rump steak, the choice is difficult.
When you dine so close to the sea, fish and seafood usually come from local waters. The attractively presented starters are delicious, often consisting of just two or three, but all the more intense flavours. The gilt-head bream from the oven rests on a bed of home-grown vegetables. Simple but good wines.
The small Konoba, far from the tourist crowds, is open all year round and serves typical local specialties such as meat from the peka with crispy potatoes, as well as a highlight: grilled pieces of eel. The delicious homemade bread goes well with this.
