Wine bar Emmanuelle opens in Clerkenwell this spring

Chef Yuma Hashemi will celebrate small-scale winemakers with his second venue in Rosebury Avenue.

The Drunken Butler in Rosebury Avenue, Clerkenwell, London, serves a single Persian tasting menu, with chef-owner Yuma Hashemi inspired by old family recipes. The venture has proved a success so Hashemi will launch a second venue directly across the road: wine bar Emmanuelle will open this spring, with a firm date to be confirmed in the near future.

At his new venue, Hashemi plans to explore small-scale winemakers across the world, with a wine list incorporating both new and old-world wines, natural and biodynamic wines, in addition to a list of champagnes. Negronis will play a prominent part on the drinks list with a selection of vintage serves made with gin, vermouth and Campari. Specialist tastings, masterclasses and producer talks will take place throughout the year, with Emmanuelle also providing a pre- or post-dinner hang out for The Drunken Butler guests.

The new wine bar has been named after a rattan chair of the same name, which sits in The Drunken Butler dining room, coined after its leading appearance in the 1970s erotic film of the same name. A second, almost identical chair has been sourced for the new opening, with other vintage and antique finds bringing a retro feel to the interiors.

Emmanuelle with 24 covers will be open for walk-ins only, Tuesday-Saturday from 6 pm to midnight. Food will be served from Emmanuelle’s home-style open kitchen and change daily to include French-style charcuterie snacks and small plates. Ad-hoc Persian dishes will also be offered such as traditional Iranian bites.
