Sotheby´s auctioning the oldest whisky ever to be sold

An 81-year-old whisky, ‘The Macallan The Reach’, is up for auction, with the bidding open until October 5.

Distilled in 1940 and crafted from a single, sherry seasoned oak cask, this special edition of  ‘The Macallan The Reach’ whisky can be yours if you have at least GPB 110,000 to bid for it. The US-based auction house Sotheby´s will accept bids until October 5 via its website; the whisky with the bottle number 3/288 is encased in a mouth-blown decanter, a bronze sculpture of three hands holding it. The current bid, as of September 28, is GBP 110,000. Whoever is successful in the auction will also enjoy a distillery experience at The Macallan Estate, which includes a tasting of this extraordinarily rare 81-year-old whisky.
