Trump Threatens France with 200 Percent Tariffs on Champagne and Wine

President Trump renews threats of 200% tariffs on French wine and champagne following France's refusal to join his Gaza peace council. Escalation hits a vital U.S. market as producers reel.

President Donald Trump again warns France with steep tariffs, blaming President Emmanuel Macron's snub of a U.S. invitation to the planned Gaza Peace Council. Macron had already opted out; now Trump targets French wines and champagne with 200% duties.

France's Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard calls the threat "hostile" to an industry already reeling. The U.S., a prime market for French wines, has seen exports slump since 2025. Trump floated similar levies back in March 2025—retaliation then for EU duties on American whiskey.
