Vinoscope: The best wines for every zodiac sign
The sign of the zodiac in which you were born is known to influence almost every aspect of your life - at least if you have a penchant for astrology. Falstaff looks deep into the crystal ball and reveals which wines the zodiac signs should enjoy.
Taste is something deeply personal. And about as individual as the place where and the exact time at which we are born. They determine which zodiac sign you are associated with, if you are interested in such things. Designated signs should be able to provide information about which character traits are most likely to be observed, which modes of communication, which whispers of love, and also more "banal" things such as the taste for cocktails, food or even wine can be predicted. When it comes to topics like this, our ears pricked up and we took a look at which wines are recommended and why.
Especially when it comes to wine, you can draw on the expertise of real astrologers, such as those of Maressa Brown from Los Angeles and Alice Smith from Seattle, who told Better Homes & Gardens their hot tips for astro-loving wine lovers. "Even if you're not familiar with your entire birth chart, knowing your sun sign is enough to figure out what flavours and aromas you might be drawn to," says the astrologer.
Aries: fiery red temperament
Fiery Aries don't need to be subtle. They are bold, warm, unabashedly spirited - and accordingly prefer aromas that express these characteristics brilliantly. According to Brown, Aries prefer intense wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, which produces some of the best wines in the world with its highly elegant, complex aromas and deep, dark ruby colour.
Taurus: soft elegance
For down-to-earth and luxury-loving bulls, Smith recommends wines of "subtle beauty", with velvety soft notes. In her opinion, the perfect grape variety is Viognier, which is considered one of the most interesting white wine varieties with its "sweet, perfume-like fragrance rich in citrus, rose and stone fruit notes".
Gemini: a breath of fresh air
Lively, sociable, quick-witted, active and curious: Smith and Brown agree that the best wine for Geminis is a light, fresh wine with little alcohol, ideal for intense conversation. Best choice: white wines from Vinho Verde, Portugal's largest wine-growing region.
Cancer: shared joy
Cancers are considered sensitive, family-oriented gourmets who prefer to spend time together - for example with a good bottle of wine with friends to reminisce. Smith recommends a wine with a hint of sweetness, such as a Riesling with notes of honey or lychee, for all sorts of sentimental moments.
Leo: sun in a glass
As a bold fire sign, Leo is known above all for its charm, generosity and self-confidence. They appreciate the warm months, so they need a wine that reminds them of the sun's rays. The big cats are well served with tangy Sauvignon Blancs that shine with notes of gooseberry and elderberry.
Virgo: complex herbs
They are considered to be detail-oriented, analytical and sensitive. Analysing the subtleties of complex wines is therefore the perfect activity for virgins. A variety like Txakoli, which comes from the Basque Country, is just right for this. The balanced salty notes, which are hidden behind herbs, strong citrus fruit and green apple, can certainly be tasted by the virgin.
Libra: pink harmony
Balance is the be-all and end-all for Libra, so the focus here is on harmony, accessibility and lightness. A French rosé is particularly suitable, as the stunning salmon-coloured specimen goes perfectly with a wide range of dishes.
Scorpio: complex experience
Transformation, action and energy - Scorpios carry these qualities in their hearts. The preferred wine must therefore be as dark, complex and mysterious as they are. Scorpios long for an intense experience, which a good Syrah can definitely provide.
Sagittarius: globetrotter wines
As the most adventurous of all the zodiac signs, Sagittarius constantly wants to broaden their cultural horizons, preferably in as many different ways as possible. A Spanish Grenache is the perfect travel companion, with aromas ranging from stone and citrus fruits to liquorice and spices.
Capricorn: Good investments
According to Brown, ibexes particularly love the classics on the wine shelf. They see high-quality, classic grape varieties such as the sometimes overlooked Cabernet Franc as a solid investment in a pleasant evening or as a special gem with long ageing potential.
Aquarius: Pure excitement
Innovative and forward-thinking Aquarians prefer wines that are dry yet complex and evolve over time, says Brown. As they are also attracted to exotic aromas and flavours, but would rather avoid varieties that are too unusual, the astrologer recommends exciting orange wines.
Pisces: Tingling in pink
Pisces are characterised by their imaginative, empathic and sensitive nature. They therefore find romantic flavours and aromas such as white flowers, vanilla, cookies and lavender pleasant, Brown continues. The perfect wine: an energetic rosé sparkling wine!
